3 White 150 Gram Weather Balloons

This is 3 new sealed 150 gram weather balloons. Uninflated they're roughly oval shaped and measures about 20 inches across and 28 inches long.They were obtained as military surplus. They were manufactured in the first quarter of 2009 and officially expired on March 2011.They are sealed in airtight packages. I assume that's to prevent it from being aged by the air. I have inflated several of these and they have plenty of life. See below for pictures of one that I inflated. It was difficult for me to measure, but it's in the back of my full-sized Ford F-150 truck. Best I can tell it was about 5 feet in diameter. They were manufactured by Kaysam Worldwide Inc. They are a natural latex color as it is inflated it looks like a pearly white color.

These balloons are delicate, but that's true of all weather balloons. It has nothing to do with the age and everything to do with the material. Like all balloons the more it's filled the more delicate it becomes. If it's filled to 3+ feet it has taken shape and is rather flexible and forgiving. It can be filled to 5+ feet but it is much more sensitive and likely to pop. Note if it hits a tree it will almost surely pop. Things like grass and debris on the ground can destroy it as well. I've inflated several weather balloons of various sizes and it's always best to have at least two people. One to hold the balloon and one to manage the filling process. Also, if you're interested in high altitude experimentation please understand that as the balloon rises it will expand. You only want to fill it enough to get a good lift on your payload. These balloons were designed for single use, but if you're very careful I suspect it could be reused.
